Jessup, PA: 1932-1969 Pompey Coal Breaker and D&H Depot

Breaker: (Satellite, the land bounded by Buttonwood, Constitution, Hill and the river plus the undeveloped land across the river.)
Delaware & Hudson Depot: (Satellite)

It had its own slope mine until 1945, and it continued to serve other mines until 1969. [NorthernField_operations]

The Pompey Breaker was located in Jessup PA, along the Erie Railroad. The breaker was built and put into production in 1932 and processed coal from the Sterrick Creek mines, mines in Archbald as well a slope located on the property.  Learn More: https://undergroundminers.com/pompey-breaker/

[This photo was 1931 and the above photo was 1934.  That tailings pile grew rather big in just three years.]

"The Pompey Breaker was located in Jessup PA, along the Erie Railroad. The breaker was built and put into production in 1932 and processed coal from the Sterrick Creek mines, mines in Archbald as well a slope located on the property. Underground workings at the site ceased operations in 1946. At this point mine run coal was processed at the breaker by incoming rail cars and trucks from near by stripping operations. In 1968 the breaker shut down and the Culm piles and banks at the site were processed at the near by Waddell Breaker. The breaker burned down in March of 1970."

The UndergroundMines source says it was served by the Erie Railroad. But this topo shows that neither Erie route was close to the mine. In the 1939 aerial, it appears there is a conveyor belt across the river. And the first letter on the hopper cars in the first photo looks more like a "N" than an "E". So, I think it was served by the New York, Ontario & Western.

On the topo map, I noticed the railroad that goes up the side of the mountain to several tipples. That was the Moosic Mountain & Carbondale.
It was an isolated 4-mile railroad built by the Carbondale & Jefferson in 1887. After some parts were abandoned, the remaining part became part of the Erie in 1941. [nepaview]

While looking for the mine's location, I spotted this building. The park on the other side of the track is labelled Station Park. So, I'm willing to bet this was the Delaware & Hudson Depot.
