Clarion, MI: Lost/Pennsy/GR&I Depot

(Satellite)

Durand Union Station-Michigan Railroad History Museum posted
Today’s featured depot is the train station in Clarion 🚂
Clarion, located in Charlevoix County, was settled about 1874. The depot, which sat about eight miles north of Boyne Falls, served as a station stop on the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad.
In 1916, the GR&I suffered a serious derailment near the north end of the passing track at Clarion. On or about April 27, a southbound train left the rails, tipping the locomotive onto its side and scattering several coaches in a zig-zag pattern. The engineer later died from his injuries and the fireman was also hurt; remarkably, no passengers were injured.
The photo here shows the depot in Clarion with a section gang on the tracks in front. Date unknown.

It looks more like a tower than a depot, but the above photo does confirm that the building was small.
