posted three photos with the comment: "Tragedy struck in 1978 when vandals set fire to the original Germantown Maryland station, completely destroying it. This loss was part of a broader pattern of neglect and decay for many aging B&O structures after the railroad's merger into larger systems (the B&O was absorbed into the Chessie System in 1972 and later CSX in 1987). However, preservation efforts led to its reconstruction. In 1987, Montgomery County, with federal funding assistance, rebuilt the station on its original site using archived plans from the B&O Railroad Historical Society.
Thomas Dorman: The original building was designed for the B&O by Baltimore architect E. Francis Baldwin, built in 1891, Metrpolitan Branch milepost 26.4.
