| The Ogle County Historical Society posted Ogle County Depot at Honey Creek, Illinois. Bill Diven: Honey Creek is where the original railroad from Aurora to Oregon headed northwest in 1871 terminating about where Daysville Road and Highway 64 intersect today. That completed enough work in reaching Oregon to meet the demands of voter-approved bonds that helped pay for building the Chicago & Iowa although there was controversy and litigation about that. Those tracks were torn up, following more litigation, after the C&I bridged Rock River south of Oregon and pressed on through Mount Morris and Maryland to Forreston where it connected with the Illinois Central. Parts of that old grade from Honey Creek remained visible for many years, but I don't think that is still the case. Richard Fiedler shared |
