Tyrone Hemry posted N & W round house Portsmouth, OH Patr Scott posted The RR Employed a lot of people back in those days. Jonathan Brier: looks like an open air gantry crane on the right side of the picture... and a bunch of locomotive parts on the ground under it?? Collin McLaughlin II: One of my home terminal’s (before I retired) on the Kenova District. You can still see some of the concrete and rails where the roundhouse was in this picture. [see below] There’s two million gallon fuel tanks over some of it now. I’ve heard almost 1,000 people alone worked in the shops , which included paint , building and wheel facilities . Not to mention the numerous carmen, maintenance, MoW, clerks and transportation workers . |

Reid McClure shared Tate Skinner's post of 56 photos, many of them show a flood |
The photos also show a hump yard. According to a 1966 aerial photo, the hump was a little west and north of the roundhouse footprint and the bowl was off to the east.

These are obviously some repair shop buildings.

Given the kind of parts I found in storage lots around the yard, I concluded that the buildings were a car repair shop. (Note the MoW equipment being stored on a track near the top of this photo.)
This ODOT news release confirms that it is a car repair shop. ORDC = Ohio Rail Development Commission. The only clue I found for the date of the news release was "Pre2013" in the URL for this page.

The roundhouse footprint we see today is a small fraction of what it used to be. It looks like it used to be a full circle.
