Andy Zukowski posted Illinois Central Railroad Depot in Moweaqua, Illinois. 1908 |

Larry Canilas commented on Andy's post MP 736.4 Charter Line; the depot a few years later (1967)
Brad Craig: Larry Candilas Wonder if that's the agent's car? Any idea when they knocked it down? By the early 1970s, all those small town depots in central Illinois were operated by a few traveling freight agents.

They removed the addition that was added between 1908 and 1967, and now it is the Moweaqua Area Historical Society.

1952/53 Assumption Quad @ 62,500 |
ILHAP offered two photos for the same location. That is very rare. In fact, I don't remember it ever doing that before. I'm glad I checked out the second one becuse it is better.
Judging from the aerial photos, the grain elevator was pretty big for its day in 1938. And it is now still pretty big for a town elevator.
There is even more storage on the north side of town.
Note the lineup of trucks waiting to unload.
At least one of the elevators has a fall protector, so it is probably rail served.
Larry's comment above confirmed that this town was on the IC Charter Line. That route was abandoned decades ago. But this map shows that there is a remnant of that charter route south of Decatur. But I have not been able to figure out who owns that route.
CN evidently doesn't operate that branch.
Assumption is also on that remnant, and it also has a big grain elevator.
