Daren Genau posted two photos with the comment: "Former Roundhouse and shop foundations, Pocatello ID."
Steve Jackson: This was once one of the largest roundhouse in the world, depending on how the measurements are considered. It had 53 stalls total, and was the largest by stall number on the Union Pacific system. Denver (Pullman) had 50 stalls, and Cheyenne had 48 stalls.
The coal dock in Pocatello was also the largest on the U.P., holding 900 tons of coal. By comparison, the next largest were 650 tons and major locations like Cheyenne and Laramie.
Jim Kelling: Oneonta NY (D&H) had 52 stalls, largest in the eastern USA.
Patrick Wines: Fun fact, they never fully filled in the turn table pit. Real fun to find at 3am in a work truck.

Clayton Huber commented on Daren's post Pocatello was huge. My wife is from there. Passenger car shop, upholstery shop, engine shops. I bought a book on Pocatello. |

Dennis DeBruler commented on Daren's post I got a 1953 aerial photo to confirm that the roundhouse used to be almost a full circle. [ARA001210071189] Orion Forbes Taylor: Dennis DeBruler Looks to have quite the complex of shops next to it. Possibly also a transfer table? Dennis DeBruler: Orion Forbes Taylor I was also wondering if there was a transfer table between the two backshop buildings. |

In the first drone photo, I noticed the smokestack. I guess they left it as a fancy UP sign.
