Timothy Leppert: Looks like a photo taken from a tower? Plus, you can see control rods by the North side platform heading to the signal bridge. Great photo.
William Shapotkin: Timothy Leppert Yes, the photo was taken from a tower. Note the tracks in Harlem Ave -- those tracks are of the Chicago & West Towns BERWYN-LYONS carline (today service is provided by PACE bus Rt #302 -- OGDEN/STANLEY). The crossing was interlocked -- thus providing protection for both CB&Q and C&WT.
Timothy Leppert: William Shapotkin Thanks, Excellent. When I used to drive the Commuters, I could see many old building foundations from the past. There is such a great history for this service and it was a great career.

Here’s another image from that 1930s Berwyn Harlem train station shoot. I’m finding more from the his collection as I clean out my storage.
Can anyone identify this train?

Mike Bartels: Looks like the "Silver Slipper," a two-car Budd-Michelin train set delivered to the Texas & Pacific in October 1933. Its look obviously was a Zephyr predecessor. It was short-lived, though, dogged by reliability issues. https://www.newspapers.com/.../the-pantagraph.../197230787/

👍 Zoom in on this one, my scanner sucks but detail is still pretty good.
This colorized 1930s slide really takes us back to the western burbs. I feel like I just walked out of a time machine.

The train in this photo is possibly the Denver Zephyr. If so, this particular train ran from 1936 to 1973 so I am guessing this photo is in that 1936 era.
[The comments agree that it was the Twin Cities Zephyr.]
[Some comments discuss the streetcar tracks in the street.]

  1. I used that station for many years. I've always loved the stonework.
