rexp2 Flickr Power station at Crawfordsville, IN, along Sugar Creek. |
Samuel Plew posted three photos with the comment: "The power plant in Crawfordsville was an unusual but clever design. Monon coal was unloaded above the roof line into a ramp to the plant. It was later moved to the east side of the main to a single car dump house. At one time an electric railway carried the coal down to the plant. Would make an interesting model. The cliffs become surprisingly steep along the mainline. It’s probably the best Crinoid fossil site anywhere."

The plant was idled in 2008 and Sterling Energy Group bought it for $155,000 in 2014. "Sterling Energy plans to use the plant as a combined heat and power facility using clean coal technologies. Barton says it will cost between $10 million and $14 million to make the plant comply with current regulations." [sent-trib]
I'm writing this in 2025, and I can't find any information on what happened with the 2014 plan.
