John Harker
posted two images with the comment: "Charles Franzen travelled to Mediapolis, Iowa on July 6th, 1959 to photograph CB&Q west bound train 23 the mixed local on the Washington Branch. This local had made its morning stop at Rock Island’s Mediapolis depot at 8:25 AM. I believe there was some switching to do and the station agent was sorting through some express packages. The consist for this mixed local was pretty easy to see. The power was probably an SW (like 9132) or an NW-2. The modified coach on the tail-end was used for passengers and as a caboose. This mixed local ran with trackage rights on the Rock Island from Burlington to Mediapolis and then on home rails, the old Burlington and North Western, to Washington. I found this grain elevator while verifying that none of the rectangles in today's satellite image are this depot.
