| Richard G. Howe posted Tom Elmore: Of all the communities served by THE HEARTLAND FLYER, only Gainesville, Texas, a city of 15,000, took it seriously. Do you see the transit buses? Imagine - making a TRANSIT HUB of your historic railway depot! They did it from the first - although in the beginning, the historic depot building was not ready for daily use. SO, they brought in an airconditioned portable classroom building which served as a nice, interim facility for passengers or those accompanying them to wait for the trains and bus connections. Inside were comfortable seats, restrooms and lots of marketing material for local businesses and attractions. |
