[Denton is the headquarters of the Central Montana Rail 9CMR) Railroad. [trainweb] The building on the right is their shops. The building and their locomotives survived. ]

Four vintage grain elevators stand proudly on this rainy 09-20-2020 day in Denton, Montana. Sadly I must report that part of Denton and these elevators were destroyed by a fast moving rangeland fire on December 1st. I hope that this small town with so many livelihoods changed will rebuild and recover quickly.
Dallas Buchholz: Just read they lost 25 structures including the elevators and a couple bridges. No reported injuries.

Charles Windham: The elevator complex will no doubt be rebuilt. Unfortunately, they will likely be the new steel type. The wheat farmers of Fergus County learned a valuable lessen back in 2011 when the Judith River Bridge was damaged by spring flooding. This closed the line of the Montana Central Railroad for a few years. The added cost of truck transportation was prohibitive. The farmers will welcome new loading facilities for the railroad.

A very sad disaster for this small town. Max Demars shared a few pics from the fire

The CMR shops are fine. A few burned ties in the yard, but no damage to the yard shop or locomotives. That is not to say that they weren’t nervous. It was a pretty close call.
[Another comment indicated the hoppers were built with aluminum instead of steel.]

Another photo of the fire    Blogspot refused to import it.

I took this photo on May 24, 2018., looking west. The Central Montana Railroad's shop is on the right. The railroad's workers had to be worried - elevator just across the tracks. It's hard to believe all of these elevators burned.

The comments talk about the western elevator, ex-Cargill, surviving. But it seems to me and another person that it would be this eastern elevator that would still be standing. The burned elevators were" 2x Farmers, Gallatin and Montana Elev. Co."

While looking for views of the elevators, I discovered the CMR uses cabooses.

CMR is the light-blue line in the middle of the state.
mdt.mt.gov

"Line donated to state of Montana by BN in 1983. Line is leased to CM by the state; service started on June 5, 1985." [trainweb]

BNSF is trying to renege on its 1980 commitment to subsidize CMR to provide rail service to Denton and Geraldine. [ble-t.org] I wonder how long the drive would be to the nearest shuttle elevator from that area.
