St. Paul, MN: 1885 Northern Pacific Como Yard and Car Shop

This 1885 building was the first one built for the passenger car shops.
The railroad operated the car shop until 1982. I think these photos were taken during that year as a historical record before the buildings were remodeled.

These two buildings were also part of the car shop. I see that they preserved the transfer table that used to run between the two buildings.

David Edman: I’m going to bet the 1982 date on the Como shop pics is accurate. Look closely at an enlarged version on the last picture and see BN logos adorning the building.

Inside the Como Shops complex of the Northern Pacific Railway, located just south of Como Park in the St. Paul Midway. A railroad crane is parked next to the powerhouse building.

Note this ash disposal bin is in the middle of the above photo.

We’re on location in St Paul, MN at the former Northern Pacific’s Como Shops, now repurposed as the thriving Bandana Square.  Lots of railroad history here.  Did I mention there’s a Best Western Plus where you can book a hotel night in the old railroad shops? -Kevin
Robert Renz: As I recall, that's not a coaling tower, but the shop's old ash bin from the old boiler house. 
[In the comments is a controversy about whether or not this tower was moved here.]

The above photo inspired me to take a look with street view.
