The bright, white line along the north side of the building, which was the platform, makes it easy to identify the depot.
There was a small railyard in this town. That explains the current big green space between Main and Washington Streets.

Coal Mine
Joshua Sayer posted D-11's carrying a full blade, Knight Hawk Coal Co., Creek Paum Mine ~ miss being around it, the cb radio chatter between the carry dozer crew and driller always made the days go by fast, always got a laugh out of those characters. James H Trovillion: Helped put those tractors together, was there the day they got the first coal out of ground. Caterpillar service tech, 35 years. [All of the comments speak well of the place.] |
Joshua Sayer posted Creek Paum Mine, Ava IL (Sato) ~ 992 and 777's ~ had a lot of fun working with a lot of good folks. Was trained by some well seasoned miners out there. Good memories. Randy McFarland: Helped put those trucks and loader together new. Aaron White: I've hauled out of there. |
Dennis DeBruler commented on Aaron's comment I noticed that the mine is not rail served. To where was the coal hauled? https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZxADZPwmqhFHTN9B8 Joshua Sayer: Dennis DeBruler private river dock on the Mississippi is owned by the coal company close to Chester IL. A railcar load out facility was also used in Carbondale IL off Dillinger Rd. via contract trucking. Coal was also shipped direct by contract trucking from the mine to the customers as well. Aaron White: Dennis DeBruler to the Mississippi River on rout 3. |
Dennis DeBruler commented on Aaron's comment Wow, no storage facility. The coal goes directly from the trucks to the barges. https://www.google.com/maps/@37.8675593,-89.7591358,318m/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttu |
