East Allis: (Satellite "near 2nd and Florida.")
Edward P. Allis started by buying the Reliance Plant. He then built a new plant south of downtown. When the company outgrew that plant, they built one is West Allis.
Jon Jocham posted If you research Allis Chalmers. You will learn about Allis East. In the early days of the company. Edward P. Allis purchased a company called Reliance works from a bankruptcy court. The interesting part of the story is the location of the facility was in the middle of Milwaukee close to the river. The primary source of power was waterpower. After 30+ years in maintenance. I do understand this story so much better now. The decision to move the buildings down the river to a new location was a bold move. With the new location, steampower became the source of power for the new facility. Allis East also started an Industrial revolution in the Milwaukee area. When Allis Chalmers ended in bankruptcy due to financial problems. It was also the end of a dedicated workforce that took generations after generations to do great things for mankind. Allis Chalmers tractors from every production line means so much more to the owners and the workers who built them. My stories aren't just about me. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. The Milwaukee county historical societies building and pere Marquette park is the original location of Reliance Works factory. Allis East was near 2nd and Florida. |
CN/Milwaukee still has the railroad that went by the 2nd-and-Florida site, and it had the railroad that came down the west side of the river to the Reliance Works.
