Ted W. Makropoulos posted McClintic & Marshall Co. Pottstown works later became part of Bethlehem Steel's Fab division. Parts & sections of many well known bridges and other world famous projects were fabricated and assembled right here. It's demise, a long with the rest of Beth Steel's Fab department came shortly after the devastating blow of losing the bid to the World Trade Center/ Twin Towers. From what I was told by someone who worked there along with his father and later read about, nearly a thousand workers showed up for their shift one morning only to find the gates padlocked with security turning them away. It sat exactly like that as if it was frozen in time til the remaining inventory and equipment was sold off, then sat untouched again until the property was sold a long while later. Either his great grandfather or grandfather was one of the first handful of workers hired by the original owners, each generation put in nearly 45 years there. He put in 28 til the lock out. Jon Hart: That looks like a floor girder for the George Washington Bridge. James Torgeson: Served by both the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Reading Company! |
