Until IC was forced to use the CB&Q and NC&StL (actually, P&I) Bridge in 1918 by the United States Railroad Administration, IC ran a ferry service between Paducah and this town.
This is not a roundhouse, but I use that label because it is the locomotive servicing building.

Illinois Central Railroad Scrapbook And Occasionally Other Railroads posted IC enginehouse, Brookport, IL. The exact date is unknown, but it is estimated to have been taken around 1905. 2-6-0 489, on the left, was built by Brooks in 1896 and scrapped in 1931. 2-6-0 443, on the right, was built by Rogers in 1893 and sold in 1929 to the Charles Black Sand & Gravel Company. The infrastructure for the ferry service had not been removed by 1926.

Back in 1938 Pell Road did not intersect with 3rd Street. Was the engine house one of those building we see in this aerial at that intersection?
