This was the NKP freight house. It looks like NS has as little pride in its buildings as CSX does. It is nice to see that NS has enough local freight business to park a locomotive here.

Bob Morton posted Check this out, Fremont friends—bit of hometown history for ya! 👀🚂 I came across this old photo from the Nickel Plate Road magazine, taken about a decade ago. It shows the original Fremont train depot, right here on North Monroe Street. Recognize it? You should—it’s now Depot Pizza & Bar! 🍕🍻 Yep, that building served passengers and freight back in the day when the Nickel Plate Road and Lake Shore & Michigan Southern (LS&MS) railroads ran through town. Today, you can grab a slice and a beer right inside a place that helped connect Fremont to the rest of the country. I like the vintage photos inside the Depot Pizza. It still has tons of photos inside that’ll take you right back to the railroad days. And just down the street, the old freight house is still being used for rail work near Monroe, Washington, and Napoleon streets. Makes you look at our town a little differently, huh? History never tasted so good. 😉 Mark Brown shared
It appears the NKP had to do a backing maneuver to access the depot. This map does explicitly mark the location of the station.

Roger Durfee posted On a jaunt to try the fresh lake perch at a restaurant in Fremont, Ohio, I did check out the railroad scene in town. Being a Sunday, the local was tied up at the former N&W depot. Loved that it still had it's Norfolk and Western lettering. We did see NS train 809 (coke empties) while at dinner. Jeffrey S. Mann: Does anyone have pictures of this caboose? Looks like #518527.

Roger Durfee commented on Jeffrey's comment correct on the number. I only did this angle due to the ugly vandalism on it.
