Brad Craig: The Anna depot was still in good condition when the IC demolished it in 1969. I remember an Illinois Central Real Estate sign near it for several months. I guess the railroad gave up on trying to sell it and destroy it so they wouldn't have to pay taxes on a building they no longer used. The depot was built in the 1920s, so it wasn't that old when it was destroyed.

This station is now gone, replaced by a parking lot. The Illinois Central Railroad's choice to build a Depot at Anna instead of Jonesboro made all the difference in the prosperity of the two nearby towns. Photo by Charles Medin 1938.
Larry Candilas: MP 328.7 Illinois Division; Jonesboro had the M&O RR plus it was the county seat and a little interurban connected the two so it wasn't the end of the world.
Frank LaFoon: I was a member of the Anna Rotary Club when the station was closed. Our club aggressively lobbied the Illinois Central Railroad to transfer the building to us. We had plans to repurpose it and use the space for a variety of commercial and community related activities.
We were dismissed by every official we contacted.
It is a disappointment which I have carried for several decades.
