I was on various equipment and did different things for that job. I remember the last thing I did was Operate a massive Vacuum Truck with 3 vacuum boxes and a crew of six laborers who vacuumed every nook and cranny of the old "turntable" bridge. The boss told me, "This is it, tonight they're bringing in a massive crane, picking up this bridge, putting it on barges, and setting the new bridge in place, in one piece. I went in the next day to collect my last check, and the new bridge was in place. I live on Staten Island otherwise I would have returned that night to watch. It's amazing what they can do. Manuel Garcia: Those cranes were built at kiewitt and I welded on that project. Gary Burleigh: Best investment ever made by a contractor.
