Anyone know what’s going on with this power plant on Lake Erie . First energy close it a few years ago but I haven’t heard anything. Is it abandoned?
Scott Medwid: Ontario Canada has done well after closing up all their coal burners. See how they generate electricity now here.: www.GridWatch.ca

If you look close at the signage you will see it is now considered the “Eastlake Substation”. I worked there for many years as the plant Maintenance Engineer, Plant Manager and responsibility for it as Fossil Generation Division Manager.
I took this picture at the end of July on my way to a College Fraternity reunion in New York. Very sad to see all the lake coal fired power plants retired and decommissioned.

It was still receiving coal by rail in 2013.

A 2015 article said demolition was supposed to start within 18 months. That didn't happen because this view shows it was still standing in 2023.

The plant had an industrial spur from the NYC mainline.
