Durand Union Station-Michigan Railroad History Museum posted
Today’s featured depot is the Grand Rapids and Indiana station in Harbor Springs 🚂
This depot was constructed in 1889 and designed by the Grand Rapids architect Sidney J. Osgood. Sidney and his son Eugene later partnered to design many Masonic facilities in both the United States and Canada. The Pennsylvania Railroad acquired GR&I in 1918.
Passenger service remained at the depot until 1962 and was then purchased by the next door Walstrom Marine Company. Over the years ownership and usage of the depot has shifted several times.
As of 2016, the station serves as The Depot Club and Restaurant, a private fine dining club and restaurant. Per their website, “The main dining room – which seats up to 60 people and requires a sport coat during the summer season – is adorned with rich Damask wallpaper, walnut paneling, brass light fixtures, and vintage train locomotives.”
