In Whitewater, WI the railroad first arrived in 1852. The frame depot that was erected was replaced in 1891 with a brick building in the High Victorian Gothic style. The Whitewater passenger depot served the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railroad, later known as the Milwaukee Road. The depot was designed by J.T.W. Jennings, who was the architect for the Milwaukee Road from 1885-1893.
Passenger train service to Whitewater ended in 1951. The depot was home to a garden supply store during the sixties and purchased by the city in 1973. It was then leased to the Whitewater Historical Society. The Depot Museum opened in 1974, and the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.
