Grain Elevator: (Satellite)
Tina Horve posted A photograph of the old Argenta RR station moving to Forsyth, where it was purchased by the Peckham Oil Company for a "highway restaurant with that old-time feeling." It was known as The Depot and the Whistle Stop. (from Prairie Post Dec. 16, 1971) Dennis Martin: It was destroyed by a fire. Too bad. Adam Sleeth shared |
Dennis DeBruler commented on Adams's share It looks like it was just east of Argenta Road and north of the mainline. 1941 aerial photo https://clearinghouse.isgs.illinois.edu/webdocs/ilhap/county/data/macon/flight12/0bgu4b046.jpg |
Not only was the clarity of the depot different between two photos, the shadow changed its slant! Digging deeper, the flight lines were north/south here instead of the usual east/west.

I don't think the local elevator is used because the next town along the line, Cisco, has a huge grain elevator. Since the big one has fall protectors and since this photo caught some MoW work in progress, I presume the Cisco elevator is still rail served. The USGS map and the 2005 SPV Map indicate this route is owned by the Decatur Junction Railway (DT).

Any town that has old John Deere tractors parked on its street is worth noting.
