Exact design as those on the Illinois Valley and Northern.

The CB&Q Depot at Chadwick, Illinois -- Inside and Trains
The towns of Chadwick and Milledgeville had a Joint Agency when I was substituting for three weeks for the regular agent in August 1964. "Joint" meant I worked Milledgeville in the morning and Chadwick after lunch. The towns are on the single track line from Aurora to Savanna, most of the way to Savanna. I'll let the captions with the photos tell the story.

1. The Chadwick Depot on August 12, 1964. The little sign on the station still read Railway Express Agency, but no trains stopped to pick up the express!

2. The Depot with CB&Q (E7A) 9927B and two younger sisters flying the eastbound North Coast Limited (Train 26) on the 13th.

3. The Agent at the ticket window. No trains stopped, no tickets sold.

4. The Agent elsewhere in the station office.

5. While I was there, CB&Q Oiler 2115581 came through town on the 17th.
Victor Obertance: I read the oil was sprayed on the rails to reduce the corrosion caused by the salt brine leaking from the ice-cooled refrigerated cars. I also read rail joints were lubricated to prevent what is known as a “frozen joint” where the bolt and joint bar rust or "freeze" together with the rail. Rail expands and contracts and it is desired to allow the joint components to move to avoid joint pull-apart in cold temperatures and kinked rail in hot temperatures. I DO NOT KNOW IF EITHER OR BOTH OF THESE EXPLANATIONS ARE CORRECT OR NOT or may have some ring of truth to them.
Marty Bernard: First true. Not sure about the second.

6. The Oiler's power was SD9 329.

7. CB&Q E5AB 9912AB with the eastbound Morning Zephyr on the 21st. They have 129 miles to go to get to Chicago's Union Station.

8. CB&Q E9A 9987A with Train 32 the eastbound Empire Builder on the 13th. 9987A was beat up 6 weeks later in the wreck at Montgomery Tower. She was repaired and became BN 9987.

It appears that it was a little northwest of the intersection of Main and 1st Streets. https://maps.app.goo.gl/W6AN4oUPkvnDeyMo9
