River Rail Photo posted Darkest Before Dawn In Westernport. The Western Maryland Railroad Station Museum and Park in Westernport, Maryland sits dark on the night of November 21, 2019. The museum itself reopened after extensive renovations in 2021, but the tracks remained unused after the paper mill in Luke, Maryland had recently closed. On Monday, January 15, 2024, the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad announced the creation of the Georges Creek Division which has leased the Georges Creek Railroad, and will structure itself as a separate business from the Cumberland to Frostburg, Maryland service managed by WMSR as the two will not physically connect by a route that the railroad can use for regular operation. The WMSR announced their intention to create a short-line freight service while continuing to work with the local community to expand opportunities for business and recreation.
