Robert Jordan posted Daniel Holbrook: From front to rear of photo: first 3 tracks contained retired cars, fourth track with tank car (barely visible) is tank cars being held for Murphy Oil. Tracks 5 thru 6 are grain for elevators at Superior East End. Photo is post BN merger. Those first 3 tracks were used for a number of years for holding retired cars, many of which eventually ended up at Hyman Michaels (later Azcon) in Duluth, MN. Pauly Zee: I concur with it being post BN, especially with the SP&S 40 footers. acBut what I really wonder is whether there was still some grain coming into the Twin Ports in 40 footers with grain doors at this time (from light rail branches in ND, SD, MN). Or are these just at the edge of obsolescence and being stored pending scrap sale? Colin Mueller: Pauly Zee I know Soo Line was still 40'ing grain in early 70s at Superior. Not sure about BN. Jacob Wickman: One of the only shots I’ve seen of elevator O. Dennis DeBruler: Jacob Wickman Where was "O" located? Jacob Wickman: Dennis DeBruler where Montreal Pier Rd is today. [In the background is the west part of Elevator "M". The wood headhouse is gone, but the bins are still used.] |
Dennis DeBruler commented on Jacob's answer Thanks. It looks like they now treat ballast water there. https://maps.app.goo.gl/NGWX3upzddPSxVhN8 |
