Elevator: (Satellite)
Andy Zukowski posted CB&Q 4960 at Fenton, Illinois. April 1962 Terry Spirek: This is the day they ran the steam doubleheader #4960 and #5632 on the now defunct Den Rock line, to Savanna, Illinois. Tony Bishop: Terry Spirek What are the types? Robert David: Tony Bishop I believe the 4960 was a 2-8-2 Mikado and the 5632 was a 4-8-4 Northern. |
Dennis DeBruler commented on Andy's post That is the brightest red Purina checkerboard that I have seen in a photo. Today, the paint has faded, but the square elevator is still standing. The bolted-steel silo is south of the concrete elevator, so the depot was north of the elevator. https://maps.app.goo.gl/3PKti8wtZygkNEbr7 An aerial photo shows that it was just south of 3rd Street extended, https://maps.app.goo.gl/a8szgLKX6SYnxjFw9 |

The elevator is a museum of construction technologies. In addition to the square elevator and bolted-steel silo, it has slip-form and jump-form silos, a galvanized steel bin and a modern dryer. It is not rail served, which is expected since it is on a Class I railroad route.
