Someone wanted to see photos of Cedar Rapids, Iowa which might be held in the archives of our C&NW Historical Society. Here are two. The larger photo is actually from the Iowa State Historical Society collection while the small one from our collection has no photographer data on it. The small one was taken in November 1947.
Mike Bartels: Cedar Rapids Union Station was dedicated on Jan. 27, 1897. Effective 11:59 p.m. June 30, 1958, the passenger stop was moved to a new building at Beverly on the southwest edge of Cedar Rapids. The city lost its last C&NW passenger train on March 15, 1960. Union Station was demolished in July 1961 to make way for a parking lot. https://www.newspapers.com/.../the-gazette.../137124205/

Someone wanted to see a photo of the union station (C&NW - RI) is Cedar Rapids, Iowa.   Here is one from, we think, the 1940s.
A later date photo of the depot was posted here on 12/20/2023. [the photo at the top of these notes]

Here's a page from a 1913 Sanborn fire insurance map showing the Cedar Rapids "Union Station", probably called that since it served the C&NW and Rock Island. The Milwaukee had their own station in those days.

And here's what the area looks like today.

I'm obsessed with this station. The Milwaukee stopped in Marion though

Darren Ferreter: Bob Johnson double track CNW Overland Route crossed single track Milwaukee secondary line from Marion, Iowa to Ottumwa, Iowa. Image faces roughly NE.

The Milwaukee is abandoned to the northeast. The southwest part of the Milwaukee is now owned by Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Railway, "Crandic."
