The once bustling town of Willow Island Nebraska. Is home to this once used, but now abandoned grain elevator which sets alone along the very busy main line of the Union Pacific Railroad.

Mike Bartels: Willow Island dated from the early days of the UP. The depot is now at the Dawson County Historical Museum in Lexington.

This is the kind of small, railroad created town that may have more bins than houses. Especially if you count the feed mill that is west of town.

This is the feed mill.

I wonder if this is a commercial elevator or a farmer's elevator. Most farmers don't have their own scale. But this is rather small for a commercial elevator.
