This former Rock Island route is now owned by Interstate Iowa. I included the turnout on the left of the view below because it still exists. Does that mean that the IAIS delivers fertilizer here and/or that they store MoW equipment on this siding?

John Sims posted Downey, Iowa - June 3, 1987. Photo by Ron Sims Wesley Peters: The shorter elevator in the foreground was originally built for Isaac Heald in 1868. This makes it the second oldest wooden elevator in Iowa after the Evans, Childs & Co. Elevator in West Liberty, IA. The taller elevator in the background was built for the D. Rothschild Grain Co. in 1908. Burrell Engineering & Construction Co. of Chicago, IL were the contractors. Both are still standing today. |
