Sturtevant, WI: 1902 Moved/Milwaukee Depot

Original: (Satellite, the depot was in the southwest quadrant of the crossing)
Current: (Satellite)
Replacement Amtrak Station: (Satellite)

Milwaukee owned both the north/south and east/west routes through this town. That is why their depot looks like a union depot. The north/south route was their mainline between Chicago and Milwaukee. The east/west route went from the lake shore (Racine) to Beloit and on to additional routes in Illinois.

Paul Cera: Tended bar at the hotel across the tracks for a couple summers in the 70’s.
Ken Jamin: Paul Cera They called it the Bull Moose. It was very popular with the managers from Johnson’s Wax at lunch time.
When I worked third trick at the depot in 1972, it was so quiet some warm summer nights that I could hear the pool balls clicking together in the bar room. 😊
Kendel Robinson: Is this the old Chicago Milwaukee racetrack? 100 💯 mph  Depot gone I spose?
Erich Guenther: Kendel Robinson No, they moved the station to a new site where it was restored, it was purchased and moved by the Caldonia Historical Society. See link below. Looks nicer now. The former station site is a gravel pad now. https://caledoniahistoricalsociety.org/

It was in the southwest quadrant of the crossing,
It has been preserved as part of a museum, https://maps.app.goo.gl/JxMGpbdic4aPoqX8A

The diamond had already been removed. That makes sense since only a local serving a few industries would go east.

"Ultimately, the Canadian Pacific Railroad owned the depot and planned to demolish the aging structure. The Western Union Junction Railroad Club wanted to save the depot, but lacked the funding to preserve the deteriorating building. The Caledonia Historical Society purchased the depot and began readying it for a move. Heritage Movers initially cut the building into three sections, each 32 feet wide, 40 feet long and 25 feet tall. The movers later removed the roof and turret to accommodate utility lines for the trip. After getting approval on a route to relocate the structure at the Caledonia Historical Village, four trailers carrying the depot began the 4 mph journey at one minute after midnight on Monday October 26, 2009 and completed the trek about 3:45 a.m. Renovation of the depot took almost three years of effort by members of the Society. It including the help of work release inmates from Racine Correctional and engaging a Hawaiian designer to create templates for the scrollwork on the outside. The newly renovated Milwaukee Road Depot opened to the public in 2012." [CaledoniaHistoricalSociety]

The architecture of the replacement station was inspired by the old depot. This is certainly better looking than some of their Amshack stations.
