Thomas E Lucas posted Before Casey Jones moved to Jackson TN and passenger service, he worked at Water Valley MS switching in the yard. The attached photo is the TT and shops there 1888 to 1900. The rails have long been pulled up, but the depot remains downtown and houses a Casey Jones Museum. Photo courtesy of Bo Harris. Kerry Powell: My Great Grandfather William Hadaway was an engineer on this district as well. He was killed in a derailment that occurred due to livestock on the track. My Uncle Jack had the dispatcher's train sheet from the day that it happened. Rick Powell: Kerry Powell 4 years after Casey Jones’ wreck. According to the Water Valley RR Museum, “Ironically, Mr. Hadaway had been appointed night roundhouse foreman in the Water Valley shops and was making one last trip to Jackson to get his clothes and turn in the key to his locker. His fireman, Henry Johnson, was also killed in this wreck.” Cliff Downey: The photo is post-1910ish. Look at the far right side of the photo and you'll see a weird looking passenger car. That's a McKeen self-propelled "doodlebug". IC had 2 of them. I'd have to check my records at home, but IIRC the first was acquired around 1910. Stephanie Tom White: The locomotive on the right appears to be under a head of steam without a tender. Which building is the depot today? Great photo, quite a yard for Water Valley. Dennis DeBruler: Stephanie Tom White Evidently this one: https://maps.app.goo.gl/hp4SCtqJ6KwvtjBT7 William Hayslip: Water Valley used to be a very important place for the I.C. |
