Project Algerine posted In 1929, General Electric in Erie, Pennsylvania, began constructing 22 class P-1A electric locomotives, each with a 3,030-horsepower capacity. These locomotives were used to haul New York Central passenger trains at Cleveland's Union Terminal and New York's Grand Central Station. The first of these locomotives was demonstrated in Erie on August 9, 1929, before being delivered to the Cleveland Union Terminals Company. See more of Erie's train history on YouTube Alex Joseph: Of note, these never left the electrified portions of the NYC System in the cities of New York and Cleveland, with the portion from Cleveland to Croton-Harmon, NY handled by steam/diesel. The electrics were cut off around Collinwood, OH. for NYC bound trains and resumed at Croton-Harmon along the Hudson River to travel into the city.
