When I looked for a view where the pumps were not obstructed by a van, I discovered that this is an recent restoration. I wonder where you can buy Dino the dinosaur and the sign.

Unknown

Because this station is on a 45-degree angle with respect to the street corner, this would have been a filling station. In fact, it was probably built in the 1920s.

[This grain elevator is south of the stations.]

Note the payphone booth on the left! And one of the northern grain elevators on the right.

This beautiful restored 1925 Conoco Gas Station in Norton, Kansas is one of three vintage service stations within walking distance of each other in downtown Norton, Kansas.

The calibrated glass tanks really pop in this photo. That means those pumps are really old.

It looks like the right-hand pump is still in its as-found paint.

Grain Elevators

The northern grain elevators were along the CB&Q while the southern one was along the Rock Island.

The CB&Q is now abandoned. The silos in the distant backgrouind are part of a concrete plant.

I looked to the right side of the elevator in the foreground to confirm that truck had a grain trailer and I found this gem. That must be from the 1950s if not the 1940s. So at least the elevator is still operational.

This view shows the 18-wheeler is not just parked here, but is actively unloading grain. And it shows the straight truck waiting its turn to dump. The street view driver must have waited until it was dumping before it continued on his way. Good for him.

I checked out older views because I saw railcars in a 2012 view, but I think they were just storage. Then I found this old wood grain elevator in 2008.

By the grain elevator along the former Rock Island railroad, I found the Google Maps label of "Kyle Railroad." That must be the current owner of the Rock Island route.
