R W Ferge captured train #10-4 the Copper Country Limited at the Calumet, Michigan depot in August 1967. Its scheduled departure time was 5:00 pm for the overnight run to Chicago. FP7 102-A was in charge of this evening's train. The SOO Line operated the train from Calumet to Champion and the Milw from Champion to Milwaukee. The sleeper was transferred to #4 the Pioneer Limited and other cars to #24 the Traveler to Chicago. I scanned and edited this image from an original Kodachrome slide in my collection.

Both train and tracks all gone.

The geographically north end of the route was already abandoned in 1947.

The railroad was originally the Mineral Range and then the Duluth, South Shore & Atlantic. The DSS&A built this depot in 1908 to replace an 1873 depot. It remained in use until the last train left in Mar 1968. During its heyday, it saw five passenger trains a day.

According to the 2005 SPV Map, this town was surrounded by mines.
