Dave Allenson: I loved getting called off the engineers extra board for the Crystal Lake wayfreight. We'd switch out our cars and work our way up to McHenry. We would pull into the house track behind the depot and have lunch at the Mexican restaurant inside the depot. Fun times! |

Why do they keep that track? That siding is not long enough to get around the commuter trains that are parked here because it is at the end of a commuter train line.

I dug deeper because just two trains is not enough to run a normal commuter schedule. That is when I determined that this is at the end of a branch off the UP-NW service. There must not be much freight on this branch if they are parking commuter trains on the mainline.
