Larry Foht posted This is my Home Town Depot. It's on the Galena Division of the Chicago & North Western RR. It was torn down in 1953 Eric Skretteberg: Much earlier than most were razed. Of course they didn't repurpose that now pricey old-grwth hardwood, nor the bricks. Andrew Roth shared |
Green is the C&NW, and yellow is the interurban.

Dennis DeBruler commented on Foht's post One of the reasons I research depots is that I sometimes discover old grain elevators. In this case the old elevator is still standing! The depot was about where the mud puddle is in this view. As Brian's map shows, there used to be a house track between the depot and the white building. https://maps.app.goo.gl/viNk8VXUf4tT6h8E9 |
When I looked at the satellite image, I noticed four old bins are also still standing.

Update:
Chicago & North Western Historical Society posted Someone wanted to know what the C&NW depot at Cherry Valley looked like. Here is such a photo - taken at an unknown date. Cherry Valley is located one station stop before Belvidere, Illinois. It is on the main line of the old Galena and Chicago Union RR. The line (still in use today) was built through that town in 1851. Matthew Gibbons: When was this torn down? Fred Wallin: Matthew Gibbons 1953 Steve Rubeck shared |
