posted nine photos with the comment: "I took these photos of a Iron Furnace that is unfortunately falling apart. Karthaus Furnace is located on PA 879 in Clearfield County. It was an iron furnace in the middle of nowhere at the time and didn't last long. I will have to get newer photos this summer. Taken around 2017."
Herb Maney: This is just across Mosquito Creek from
Herb Jr’s M&M shop. The furnace was very nearly completely rebuilt in 1960 or 62??( the night before Milton Shapp was sworn in as Pa governor) when a very heavy rainfall filled the not completed top with water which soaked down through the interior fill causing too much pressure which blew the wall out! My brother’s tools, on loan, are still buried in the caved in firebox entry.
The community would love ❤️ to see it rebuilt if we just had a smite of the immigrant or Ukraine free money this gubment is wasting and handing out!
