Courtland, IL: C&NW Depot

(Satellite, it was across the mainline from Ottawa Street.)

Just to the east of DeKalb, Illinois can be found the small village of Cortland, Illinois. Here is a photo postcard view of the C&NW's depot at Cortland using a cancellation date of 1909 as a date for the view. Lots of trains still run through Cortland as it lies in the now Union Pacific main line to Omaha.

Someone asked about the exact location of the C&NW's Cortland, Illinois depot as seen in a photo here a couple of days back. This map from the "Authorization for Expenditure" (AFE) collection, shows exactly where the Cortland depot was located up to the 1960s. The map itself is dated to 1907.
Dan Davis: Thank you! Very interesting. I don’t see in this map the old Cortland to sycamore line, maybe it joined a like further west. This line is discussed in the book Five Mile Spur line, great book!
