Brian Reihs posted The Union Pacific Depot. She looks a lot better than she did in the 70's & 80's. There use to be a sign on the other side that had the Elevation of 1,114'. I wonder if it's still there. David Blakley: Last passenger trains were in 1971 and last freight trains were in 1984 for this location [building, not town] (UPRR history). Thomas Lohman: City spent huge buck$ to make this nice inside and out, then makes it difficult, expensive, or proscriptive (wedding reception, for example, …sorry no alcohol allowed) for citizens to use. Great example of Manhattan spending huge money on places nobody can, or doesn’t want to use it. Future example is $60 Million Dollar indoor Swimming pool. Bo Harris: I was actually very impressed with the leadership of Manhattan when a decision was made to work the road updates around the depot to save it. There was a while where the road updates were threatening to wipe out the depot, but instead they restored it and made it a really interesting piece to see when you first come into town. Nancy Wilson: It's an event venue now. https://downtownmhk.com/business/union-pacific-train-depot/ James Smith shared Manhatten, KS UP Jim Kelling shared Manhattan Kansas (Union Pacific) Dennis DeBruler: Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/HCBRxpWtduAokMnN9 |

The other railroad that used to be in this town was the Rock Island.
