Kampsville Ferry Then & Now
Ferries have been in use at Kampsville since the 1840s. The State of Illinois purchased the century old ferry from the Columbiana Ferry Company under a 1939 Legislative Act authorizing state operations of such facilities connecting State highways in June 1941 with possession given on August 15th 1941. Calhoun County and Greene County had started a movement for a free ferry a few years before.
The third photo was taken in the late 1950s, I took the other three photos earlier this month. Third photo belongs to Rachel Caudle.
