Roger Hensley posted two photos with the comment: "The depot in Anderson IN. The first shot is the last passenger train going through and the second is last year when it is restored and put to use."

📷KY Tower in the early 50s. This tower was just west of the Depot in downtown Anderson. I searched and searched for a photo of KY.
Now I have it!

The Big Four had both a north/south and an east/west route through town. And a connection on the south side of town that had a railyard with a roundhouse.

Which street is the locomotive crossing? In this 1952 aerial, I first thought it was the little building between the depot and Meridian Street. That was consistent with a gap between the mainline tracks and a siding in the background. But then I noticed in the photo that the tower was on the west side of a street. The building by the depot is on the east side of Meridian. I couldn't find a "tower looking" building just west of a street crossing. [AR1WU0000020058]

KY looks like it was across the street from the depot. You can just see the end of the depot platform on the left side of the engine. Also on the aerial, you can see how the shed on the south side of the tracks protrudes north of the brick building to its west.

Thanks. I was wondering if it was that black blob. I'm convinced. In fact, the buildings on the south side are still there. https://maps.app.goo.gl/LAaDz6e9KENiaFLP9

  1. This isn't a comment, but rather a question for Dennis. I would like to communicate with you regarding use of Towns and Nature images in an upcoming book. Please reply at your convenience. Thank you.
