Doug Kendall commented on Chris' post Alas, the yard basically consists of the main and a passing track now. You can buy the D&H depot if you'd like most recently an upscale Italian restaurant. |

Dennis DeBruler commented on Tim's share The roundhouse remnants made it easy to find the tower because it would be on the service leads to the roundhouse. It is in the lower-left corner of this excerpt. https://www.google.com/maps/@42.4486517,-75.0861654,484m/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttu |
Rick Shilling posted Undated 48 Stall Delaware & Hudson Railroad Roundhouses, Turntable, Shops and Yard, Oneonta, New York. Built in 1906 and demolished in 1993. Built as 2 Roundhouses separated by entrance tracks. |
Tim Starr commented on Rick's post This picture is showing the two older roundhouses that were located near the shops. The newer 52-stall built in 1906 that lasted until 1993 was west of here. |
The depot is in the upper-right corner. The rest of the railroading infrastructure is rather obvious. Note that the backshops had quite a few buildings.
1943 Oneonta Quad @ 24,000 Dennis DeBruler commented on Rick's post This topo map (1943 Oneonta Quad @ 24,000) shows the location of the 1906 roundhouse. Remnants of many of the stalls are still visible: https://maps.app.goo.gl/FK2uGECazoZu7GYY6. |
The Lutz Feed mill is an example of a facility that has many small bins to hold the various feed supplements. I zoomed out on the topo map to confirm that this area is rather mountainous. I wonder what kind of livestock is raised around here and from where they get their grains.

There are some covered hopper cars parked nearby, but I don't know if they are just being stored or if they are providing supplies for Lutz.

This post has been a draft for almost a year. The following post caused me to find it and publish it.
Ray Arnott Jr. posted five photos with the comment: "Lutz Feed Co, Oneonta, New York - August 20, 2024."
Alex Nagel: When I worked on CPRS' Northeast US Industry desks back in the early 2000s, I used to prepare switch lists for the crews who worked Lutz Feed in Oneonta.
