We Work the Waterways posted
Transloading Midwestern grain products from barge to ship for export.
Here we are at CHS Terminal on the Lower Mississippi River Mile 62 between New Orleans and the Gulf of Mexico.
Loaded Heartland barges of corn are spotted under a specialized overhead crane that lifts all 9 covers simultaneously. The barge is then pulled under the unloader by cables. Once empty it is shifted back to reset the covers.
The barge on the left is empty, and the one under the terminal is being unloaded. Turn Services' M/V BOLD RULER is spotting the next load and will move the empty to the holding fleet.
The ship YASA URANUS will be receiving all the grain from the barges and after being loaded will head south to the Gulf then the Ocean to its foreign destination.
This is poetry in motion for sure!

This is the spout that is used to load the ships. Rick Willert photo, cropped,

It can also transfer rail to ship as well as barge to ship.
