NC&STL’s 1913 built Aulon tower yesterday and today. After L&N abandoned part of the original NC’s mainline from Jackson to Cordova in 1968 some businesses/industries were still holding on giving the remainder of the line the title of the “Cordova branch” which started here at Aulon tower, alas in the early 2000’s rail services to the remaining industries halted and CSX fully abandoned the line from Aluon to Cordova, the tracks from Aulon to Cordova were still in place many years after the abandonment but is now all finally pulled up and is now a greenway/biking trail. A 1968 L&N and NC&STL 1952 map are shown for comparisons of the changes over time.

In this excerpt the Leewood Junction is near the top and the Aulon Junction is near the bottom. The L&N route across the bottom was the NC&StL route. The MoPac route was the Union Railway (URM), which was a subsidiary of the MoPac. The north/south route was the Illinois Central. It must have been a freight cutoff route because IC also had a route through downtown Memphis. The L&N shared the IC between its two east/west routes. The NC&StL shared the MoPac/URM route to
MoPac's Sargent Yard.
