Osier, CO: C&T/D&RG Depot and Water Tower

(Satellite)

C&T = Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad
D&RG = Denver & Rio Grand Railroad

Any town that still has a wooden railroad water tower is worth noting.

Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, Inc. posted
Osier, Colorado, looks much the same now as it did in 1970 when the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad was founded. Osier was once a section town on the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad. In 1970, Osier was home to a water tank, a small depot built circa 1880, a section house, a bunk house, stock pens, and several smaller structures. Osier is now the home of the lunch stop for the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. Many of the structures in the top photo have been restored by the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. The 1880 depot, behind the water tank, is now the home of a small museum maintained by the Friends. The lunch building is out of frame on the left side of the tracks.
The top photo was taken by George Berkstresser in the fall of 1970, looking down the siding towards the water tank. Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, Berkstresser Collection, George Berkstresser, BRK02-233. Friends’ member Pat Maufrais took the bottom photo in September 2023.
