Andy Zukowski posted The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad Depot in Lanark, Illinois. C.1910 Richard Oppenheim: Curiously, the Train Order signal was noticeably absent in the 1910 shot, but prominently displayed in the 1964 shot. It would be interesting to know when it was installed. For Eastward trains, the top blade was for trains running through on the D&I, and the bottom blade for trains diverging to the Southwestern at Kittredge. Dispatching the Southwestern, Lanark was very useful as a Train Order Office since trains were typically “cleared up” at Savanna before the crew’s on duty time without out knowing when the train would actually leave. If meets needed to be changed, or other conditions changed when the train pulled out of Savanna, additional orders could be issued at Lanark. Tom Lampman: Lanark was not fun to switch back in the day. They always had the wrong direction for picking up or setting out cars here. It was always a flying switch or a drop. |

Not only is the old grain elevator gone, I could not find any elevator in this town.
